Big News for 2011!!!

We have big news to share with you for the year 2011….I have recently decided to hire an assistant shooter to accompany me to my sessions and take backup images. He’s really funny and makes everyone laugh much easier than I do for sure! On top of that, he’s extremely handsome and much shorter than me, so he won’t get in my way, even if he’s standing right in front of me. He also has a much cooler camera than me. We are so excited to introduce him…..

The year 2010 was an eventful year, to say the least. At the end of 2009–sometime in November of that year, I felt that the Lord had spoken a word to me….”Renewing.” I had no idea what it meant or what implications it might have on our lives, but that word, as it continued to surface through numerous events in 2010, proved to be our definite theme over this past year. We have wept more, prayed more, been stretched more, and spiritually grown more over this last year than probably all of the previous years of our marriage combined. As I look back, I am sad, thankful, and extremely hopeful. The year began with a beloved pastor and friend passing away March 5, 2010. His wife, Charity, is a precious friend of mine, whom I have had the blessing of walking closely with over the past year. Her strength and grace through this tragedy is absolutely amazing. What an encouragement she is. She has opened up about her life and the healing process on her blog: http://charitykeldie.blogspot.com Definitely an inspiration and great resource for those dealing with tragedy. Towards the end of the year, the Lord gave me this verse, Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” You know when you have heard a verse a million times, but out of the blue, the Holy Spirit allows it to come alive to you and jump off the page, as if it’s the first time you’ve ever read it? This was one of those times. And, ironically, a few weeks later, I found out this was the scripture for the women’s retreat at our church that year. And, oddly enough….the them of the women’s retreat was “Renewing.” Even funnier…I had never realized the word “renewing” was in that verse. I had played it over and over in my mind, but had focused on different parts of it and couldn’t figure out why I kept coming back to this verse over and over and over again. Obviously, b/c I hadn’t gotten it yet. Seems like a lot of things in life are that way. The women’s retreat proved to be an enormous blessing, but what was even greater was how the Lord gradually changed my heart out of obedience to Him. You see, at the time God gave me that verse, I was ready in my own selfishness and impatience to leave our church and find another. Let me add, this is the church we helped plant….that we have watched God grow from a handful of people to an entire congregation; from meeting in an elementary school to purchasing our second building in Frisco. I am sad to admit this and confess that there were no sovereign grounds to my desire….I was just tired of waiting…tired of being patient….I wanted something different and new…I wanted to start all over again. Just as the Israelites grumbled and complained to God about being in the dessert for so long (and might I say…their conditions were a lot worse than mine!) I was grumbling and pleading with God to take us somewhere else. It was all about me…. However, because I felt the Lord had spoken to me through that scripture–and not to mention my husband’s fierce dedication to Providence–to at least stick it out until we found a pastor, God gradually did a work in my heart over that last month….in more ways than just the women’s retreat. And not only did I stay out of obedience to my husband and my God, I wanted to stay; I fell in love with Providence church all over again. I absolutely love the people of Providence and our new pastor and his wife and not an exception. They are amazing. I am continually humbled and awed at what God did in our lives. And to think that out of impatience and pure selfishness, I could have missed it. I could have missed the “renewing” that He was working on in our lives. Disclaimer: If you’re reading this and you have left a church–or Providence church, please don’t think I’m implying that you left out of selfish desires or that it was wrong, etc. I just know what my motives were and where my heart was–and that’s what made it wrong for me.

So, that’s a little summary of our life over the past year. I feel like I barely even scratched the surface. It has been “renewing” in more ways than I can begin to express. Some good, others good produced through sorrow. It has been a nice break from working so much, which is something else that has been renewing. God has also renewed my love for photography through taking a break for a while. More on that soon…

So what I have learned in 2010….several things…but what comes to mind most is that life is so short. So very very short. And we should live with a sense of urgency to know Christ and make him known. I pray to live with a renewed mind….not conforming to the pattern of this world that will never bring me joy, but that my life will be an act of worship. I have learned that God is good in tragedy and He gives strength to walk through very difficult times. And I have learned that patience is a very very very good thing. Equally as hard, but good. And God gives good things to those who wait on him…He renews their strength as eagles. –Isaiah 40:31

So I’ll leave you with a few pictures of my precious little guys playing in the snow yesterday. What visibly speaks “renewal” more than pure white snow? : )

Rainy day fun and a good blanket

I’m such a bad blogger. It’s always one of those things on my seemingly endless list of things to do that never gets done. I have lots of ideas and things I want to post, but it seems to never happen. And then I make a “commitment” to try to blog just two or three times a week at such and such time every night….yeah right. Well, here’s my first attempt at another one of those commitments…. ; )

We had some rainy day fun the other day when it was storming so bad outside. In fact, it was so fun that the tent is still in the middle of our living room. : )

This little guy has a blanket fetish. He LOVES bis blanket…..he calls it his “booo” and as soon as he sees it, he grabs it and buries his head into it. He usually walks around the house with as much of it stuffed into his mouth as he can fit. That’s also how he falls asleep. Sweet boy.

Love this face….it’s his semi-frustrated face, but it’s SO cute!
